Pali Research analysts Rich Greenfield and Mark Smaldon say VOD Day & Date with DVD A Mistake For Studios

So says a new note by Pali Research analysts Rich Greenfield and Mark Smaldon ..they say that even though Comcast and Time Warner Cable are currently trialling the release of movies on their VOD systems at the same time that those same movies are released on DVD, it would be a grave mistake for the movie industry in the long run, as it would dramatically increase the volatility of the business (in what is already an inherently poor ROI business). The typical window used to be 30-45 days between a DVD’s release and VOD availability.

Research and Markets report released in early January predicted PS3 sales of around 75 million by 2010. The following month, Screen Digest’s Ed Barton concluded that “PlayStation 3 will hold the largest market share by 2010, with the Wii a distant third.”

Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter took a different approach, forecasting that the Wii will be perceived as the leader while its sales lead during 2007. But, he went on to argue, its sales will drop in parity with Xbox 360 as the price differential narrows.

Consumer Electronics industry magazine CE Pro maintains that Media Center has an identity Crisis and maintains that Vista undermines the entertainment platform.

I tend to agree. I’m not sure why MS included Media Center in every copy of Vista. Perhaps it was the cheapest marketing vehicle?
